Freddie Gibbs & Madlib – Bandana (2019)
Music history knows the small town of Gary in the state of Indiana first and foremost as the birthplace of Jackson 5. The town near Chicago with its 80,000 inhabitants is also home to rapper Freddie Gibbs, who began his career sixteen years ago
Now the 37-year-old, whose pseudonym comes from the Blaxploitation film “Black Caesar”, releases his new Kollabo album “Bandana” with the Californian DJ, producer, rapper and multi-instrumentalist Madlib.
Bandana is the second collaborative studio album by American rapper Freddie Gibbs and record producer Madlib. It was released on June 28, 2019, by ESGN, Keep Cool Records, Madlib Invazion, and RCA Records. Entirely produced by Madlib, it is the follow up to their critically acclaimed 2014 album Piñata, and their sixth project as MadGibbs overall.
During Madlib’s talk with Red Bull Music Academy on May 7, 2016, he announced that he and Freddie Gibbs will be releasing a second collaborative studio album called Bandana. On May 11, 2019, Freddie Gibbs and Madlib announced that Bandana will be the second installment of a planned trilogy, following Piñata, and that the third project will be called Montana.
Madlib, the prolific producer and adept sampler with a record collection spanning all genres and eras and Freddie Gibbs, the gravel-voiced braggadocios rapper, a vocal athlete. As a pair, they exude a natural chemistry and craft an alchemical music. The album will also include features from Pusha T, Killer Mike, Yasiin Bey, and Black Thought and more.
